Tho major portion of the work was on tho plough, which was in excellent, order. Teremoana, Miss Field and Grand Acre finished together at tho end of fivo furlongs on the plough in 1.7. Lucky Bag and Desert Lad wero going belter than the Lueullus gelding in G. New's slahlo at tho end of six furlongs on tho plough, Ilymestrnson and Clarendon left seven furlongs behind on tho plough in 1.35, the former having the advantage at tho post. Novar and Keddar ran a. mile and n-qnsr-tor on tho plough in 2.28. neither being extended, and finished on terms. Imperial Spark drew right away from Blimp at the end of ft mile on tho plough, tho cup candidato fulfilling his task attractively in 1.45 2-5. Rowley had St. Melba as companion over seven furlongs, left behind in 1.33 2-5, tho last half-mile in 54 2-3 A. Vexatious finished stronger than Mister Gamp, with Elysianor two lengths away, at tho oloso of a seven-furlong task on tho plough in 1.31 2-5, tho last fivo furlongs in 1.8 2-5. Callanmoro alono ran half a milo on Iho plough in 52 3-ss. Inflamo hung on better than usual to finish on terms with Mouloa Funio over six furlongs in 1.22 2 5. Hot Springs had tho advantage of King Hal in a task on Ko. 3 grass over half a mile, left behind in 50 l-ss. Pencils wus too good for Grand National over seven furlongs on tho plough in 1.38. Mouloa Treasury was clear of Dobbin at tho end of six furlongs on tho plough, run in 1.18. an attractive effort. There was little between Singleton and Polonett at tho end of half a milo on the plough in 52 3-ss. Tho cup candidate. First Sight, went a strong round on the plough, being anxious to speed up. Homo Made was going better than Atareria at the end of a mile on tho plough, in 1.-17 1-5. Kalos was in front of Locarno at tho close of a mile on tho plough, tho last six l'urlongs in 1.25. Statuary was well clear of Killogie in a half-milo scamper on No. 3 grass, breaking 50s. Patearoa left five furlongs behind on the plough in 1.6. Archcria gave Disrank three lengths' advantage in the early stages of a six-furlong gallop on No. 3 grass, but gathered his companion up in tho run home, to complete the task in 1.19. Elicit and Calluna went round four fences; both jumped well, but tho pace wa3 not on. Roburant was sent over four fences. Although lie stopped at the first, he jumped fairly well thereafter. The unnamed full-sister to Valuator had Lin Arlington as companion in a two-fur-long sprint in 26 2-ss. Lin Arlington went on to jump a couple of fences in promising style. I\. S. Bagby rides First Sight in the cup; C. Broughton will pilot Silver Paper in the Fitzherbert Handicap; and W. Broughton has been engaged for Mies Field, Opa and Imperial Spark. COMPETITORS SCRATCHED. Honeycomb will not make tho trip as ho has developed leg troubles. R. Longley went South with Proud Knight, who should raco well among tho hacks at Dunodin. He may bo a competitor also at Wnikouaiti ori New Year's Day. Miss L Doylo sent Star Raid South. He i ( in the best of order for holiday engagements. Although Battlo Colours has been allowed to forfeit' his first day's engagement at Dunedin he may be seen out on tho second day. F. T. Buchanan expects to leave by tonight's train with Gay Sonnet, who is engaged at Dunedin and other Southern fixtures. She is at the top of her form at present. Although Front Rank in booked to compete in the Waikouaiti Cup on New Year's Day it is doubtful if Pahautanui will accompany hor to tho meeting. R. Ellis expects to raco Buoyant and Arrowmir at Waikouaiti. A four-year-old mare by Greyspear from Cuirass, owned by Mr. H. Enßor, is tho lates addition to B. Longley's team.
