MORE SUBURBAN MEMBERS.
MR. WOOD AND MR. MORTON.
Tho personnel of tlje Auckland Transport Bonrd of 10 members has been completed with tho eloction last evening of Mr. James Wood and Mr. F. S. Morton as tho representatives of tho No. 2 suburban area of tho transport district. Mr. Wood is chairman of tho Mount Wellington Road Board, and Mr. Morton is a member of tho Onehunga Borough Council.
Fivo nominations were the unsuccessful candidates being Mr. A. Miniken, member of tho Ellerslie Town Board, Mr. E. F. Jones, chairman of the Mount Roskill Road Board, and Mr. 11. B. Dobbie, chairman of tho Ono Treo Hill Road Board. Tho local bodies in tho area are tho Onehunga Borough Council, the One Treo Hill, Mount Roskill and Mount Wellington Road Boards, tho Ellerslie Town Board, and tho Panmuro Township Board. The election was conducted by Mr. S, Gray. Thero was a roll strength of 42, of whom all but four were presont. The voting resulted: —Mr. Wood, 23: Mr. Morton, 20; Mr. Milliken, 12; Mr. Jones, 11; Mr. Dobbie, 7. In returning thanks, Mr. Wood said it would bo his endeavour to serve the interests of tho wholo area Mr. Morton predicted tho four suburban representatives would have a hard fight ahead, but by persistent effort lie thought they would get justice for all Concerned. No election was necessary for the choosing of tho two representatives of the No. 1 suburban area, comprising tho boroughs of Mount Albert, Mount Eden, and Newmarket, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, Mayor of Mount Albert, and Mr. E. 11. Potter, Mayor of Mount Eden, were elected unopposed. Tho six representatives of the Auckland City Council aro tho Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, Mr. J. A. C. Ailum, Mr. G. Ashley, Mr. M. J. Coyle, Mr. A. J. Entrican, and Mr. E. J. Pholan.
Questioned last evening, Mr. Bnildon said no advico had yot been rccoived by the City Council as to when the first meeting of tho board would bo convened, or by whom it was to bo convened. Ho presumod early action would bo taken by the Government, following tho gazotting next Thursday of last evening's election result. Then the stage will bo set for tho taking over of tho City Council's transport undertaking by the board. In congratulating Mr. Morton at a meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council last evening tho Mayor, Mr. W. C. Coldicutt, said he felt it was a wise decision to elect two members of such distant districts as Mount Wellington and Onehunga. In replying, Mr. Morton said ho realised the responsibility entailed in endeavouring to ensure that tho local bodies bordering on tho outside part of tho city should receive a fair deal. However, ho felt sure tho city members would realise they must consult the interests of adjoining districts. There might be a little parochial feeling at first, but his forecast was that it would dio out after tho first few meetings, and that all would work in the interests of tho whole community.
