(Received December 16, 5.5 p.m.i British Wireless. RUGBY, Deo. 15. Private bills for powers to proceed with the extensive plan for the co-ordination of the London passenger transport /services havo boon deposited in the House of Commons by the London County Council and the London General Omnibus Company.
The bill? provide that the London Traffic Advisory Committee shall become the statutory authority to which would bo referred all questions that may arise as to fares, adequacy of service, and plans for future developments.
This body would thus become tho public's protection against exploitation by the monopoly thus created. The bills carry out in all particulars the recommendations made by tho London Traffic Committee a year ago. The Government, it is understood, has undertaken to give facilities to enable the bills to bo passed before the general election next year.
Tho Underground Railway Group is prepared to start work on tube railway extensions in various parts of tho London area as soon as tho bills become law.
Modern tube railways cost approximately £1,000,000 per mile, and tho Underground Group is prepared to start on works costing from £15,000,000 to £20,000,000, if it is assured that the wasteful competition between various forms of transport services will bo eliminated.
