RESPONSE TO RATES DEMANDS [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA, Monday. The local Government Loans Board has forwarded to the Tauranga County Council approval of this Orcpi No. 2 loan of £ISOO, Borell's Road loan of £250, and of' loans for the reconstruction of Tahawai Bridge, and Hyde's Creek Bridge. Since the issue of the demands last month by the County Council approximately £3OOO has I teen paid in rates. The district traific manager of railways, Auckland, acknowledging a letter from the Tauranga County Council regarding the creation of a Pag station at th» junction of Te Puke and Maketu Roads., states that owing to the close proximity of the Paengaroa and Rangiuru stations to tho site it is regretted a stopping place cannot be approved. The stations on the Tauranga-Taneatua section are very close and settlers are well catered for. To increase the stopping places would mean that trains would require more tima on the journey. The county council has decided todr*w the attention of the Minister of Marine to the possible danger of inundation to tho Maketu township owing to the gradual erosion of the sandhills on the ocean beach, due to the action of the Kaituna River outlet, and suggesting that an engineer be sent to inspect and report.
