MAN WHO VOTED TWICE.
DRUNKENNESS AS DEFENCE. PENALTY OF £1 IMPOSED. Drink was said to have caused George S. Hodgson, elderly, who admitted in the Police Court yesterday a charge of having .voted twice at the recent general elections, to go to the polling-booth a second time. "In the morning defendant had somo drink and went along and voted," said Sub-Inspector McCarthy. "Later he got hopelessly drunk and had a sleep. When he awoke, defendant was seized with the i'ea that he had not voted and that he must perform his duty. He then went along to the snme booth and voted again. Asked if he had anything to say, Hodgson answered that what the sub-inspector had said was true. Mr. F. K. Hunt: No doubt the cause of the trouble was drink. I will treat it as a drunken sort of offence. Defendant is fined £l.
