FAREWELL TO HEADMASTER
MR. WOOLLER'S SERVICE.
Prior to liis retiring on superannuation after 40 years' teaching service, Mr. J. Wooller, headmaster of the Newton West School, was farewelled by parents and pupils yesterday. The Rev. P. Halliday, chaiman of the School Committee, who presided, paid a tribute to Mr. Woolier's work for the school. Speaking on behalf of the Auckland Education Board, Mr. G. Brownlie, said Mr. Wooller had occupied soma very fine positions under the board. The Newton West School was one_ of the finest the board possessed, requiring a particularly good head teacher. There were many headmasters in the service who were good examples to the children and Mr. Wooller was one of them. Mr. Walker, headmaster of the Newton Central School, conveyed the good wishes of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute and the Auckland Headmasters' Association. Mr. Wooller was presented with a gold wristlet watch by the scholars and parents, an illuminated address from the school committee, a travelling companion from the teaching staff and an inlaid tray from Standard VI. boys. Mrs. Wooller received a silver tea tray and a bouquet.
