The following weather forocasfc for 24 hours from. 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— The general outlook indicates , unsettled weather, with' further heavy showers, fair intervals intervening. Ilail and thunder is expected in places near the West Coast. Westerly to south-westerly winds, moderate to strong, Bqually at times. Rough seas -on tho west coast and in the' Bay of Plenty.: Cold temperatures. Th« slow-moving disturbance still lingers over New Zealand and haß intensified in. the south. An area of high barometric pressure, enclosing a lino weather system, is approaching from tho west, and conditions should show a gradual improvement,- combined with a general increase in pressure. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 29.55 in. Midnight, Tuesday .. .. 29.60 in. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—There has been little change in the pressure distribution, but the cyclone east off Cook Strait has intensified still furthor. Indications .are for moderate to strong south-west to southerly winds, reaching gale force at many places Seas generally rather rough to rough in Now Zealand waters. Strong south-westerly winds to gales and rather rough to rough seas.in the eastern Tasman Sea. Still generally unsettled, with furthor rain. Some heavy, falls in eastern districts between Akaroa and East Cape. Hail in places. Cold temperatures. RAINFALL RECORD. Fall in City (Herald gauge): 24 hours ended midnight., Dec. 12 .. ,15in.
