OBITUARY.

Mil. J. C. M. GIBSON. The death has occurred of Mr. James Cuthbertson Mackechnie Gibson, aged 80 yearsr, after a short illness. Ho was born at Kilmarnock, Scotland, in 1848, and received his early education at Rothesay Academy. Ho was later a student at Glasgow University. He married in 1870, and with his wife arrived at Auckland early in 1871 en the ship City of Auckland, with the late Mr. W. F. Massey us a fellow passenger. Ho joined the staff of the Bank of New Zealand almost immediately, later being attracted to Thames, where he was associated with Mr. W. Wilkinson in a newspaper venture. Ho later acted as publisher of the Auckland Weekly News, before rejoining the Bank of New Zealand as an inspector. After i fine record of service in that capacity he accepted the position of accountant to the Thames Star in 1895, when Thames was experiencing a profitable goldmining boom. Ho occupied this position until July last, when lie was forced to relinquish his post owing to failing health. Ho leaves a wife, six daughters and six sons.

MRS. G. E. HARRIS. Mrs. (1. K. Harris, whoso death ocrurrcd at Lower Hutt on Saturday, wis tho wife of Mr. G. E. Harris, of the Geological Survey Department, Wellington, and youngest daughter of tho late Mr. George J. Lawlor, of Thames and Waihi, anil Mrs. Lawlor. of Epsom. She was born at Thames and resided on the goldfields until her marriage, in Waihi, sixteen years ago, when she settled in Wellington and later in Lower Hutt. She is survived by her husband and two young sons.

Prior to his appointment to Invercargill he was 'in charge of tho parish of Goro for 33 years. 110 visited Sydney during the recent Eucharistic Congress.
