OPENING CLUB BAR.
DELAY AT ASHBURTON. VOTING NOT YET GAZETTED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Opening day for the bar of the Ashburton Club, which has been closed for the last 25 years, has had to bo indefinitely postponed. The intention was to open on Friday, but difficulties have arisen. Until the official declaration of the voting for tho Dominion has been gazetted opening tho bar would bo illegal. Tho figures have not yet been published and tho committee of the club is awaiting the oflicial declaration. *
Further, the committee has been informed that liquor will not bo supplied to tho club until the writs of the, various returning officers have been sent in. Apparently liquor merchants intend to await the return of all the New Zealand figures before making a move. However, tho club is carrying on with the necessary preparations and improvements to its premises and applications for tho position of steward have been invited.
