WRECK OP MONOPLANE.

SUPPORTER'S GENEROSITY. £IOOO TOWARD NEW MACHINE. (Received November 28, 10.55 p.m.) SYDNEY. Nov. 28. A wealthy resident of Sydney, Mr. Rofe, who provided a largo part of tho finance for Captain Frank Hurley's attempted flight to England, has received a cablegram from tho airman and FlyingOfficer Owen, They both expressed regret at their crash at Athens. '

Mr. Rofe now announces that he is willing to contribute another £IOOO toward a new machine.

Officials of the Air Board, Melbourne, state that Mr. Owen's resignation from tho Air Forco has been accepted. It was generally thought that tho board had granted him leave of absence to undertake the flight with Captain Hurley.

FLIERS AT ATHENS. END OF LONG FLIGHT. HURLEY TAKEN TO HOSPITAL. United Service. ATHENS, Nov. 27. As a result ot the crash of the mqooplane Spirit of Australia, in which Captain Frank Hurley and Flying-Officers Moir and Owen wore attempting to fly from Australia to England, Captain Hurley was taken to hospital suffering from a vfound in his head. His condition is satisfactory. The machine was so badly damaged tha/c a resumption of the flight in it will not be possible.

SOUTHERN CROSS. OVERHAUL OF ENGINES. TRIAL FLIGHT OVER SYDNEY. (Received November 28. 8.P«5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov 28. The engines of tho monopliano Southern Cross havo been overhauled and a trial fiighL over Sydney to-day was most successful. Squadron-Leader Kjmgsford Smith and Flight-Lieutenant Ulm wore on board.

Tho airmen do not intend to leave for America until the end of December. Probably they will take the monoplane with them.
