EVENING ATHLETICS.

AUCKLAND CLUB'S MEETING. ELLIOTT'S FINE PERFORMANCE. The Auckland sprint. champion, A. .T. Elliott, registered a brilliant performance in winning from scratch tho 100 yards handicap decided at tho Domain yesterday, when tho Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club held tho second series of its evening meetings. Tho final produced an exciting finish. Elliott, running in his best form, beat Willey by a. foot, with McLeod and Couper a dead heat for third plarn. The time, 10 1-lOs, was excellent, ns tho track was heavy, although tho runners were aided by a sharp breeze. L\ C. Barker proved too speedy for tho opposition in tho 880 yards, and won nicely from J. W. Savidan, the scratch man. Good fields comprised tho cycle event, and several close finishes were witnessed. Two field events were also contested, and good competition resulted. The results were as follows: 100 Yards Handicap. —First heat: A. .T. Elliott, ycr. I ; V. K. Walker, Iyds. 2; N. Funnell, "{yds, Six started. Won by 2ft., inches between second and third. Time, 10 3-ss. Second heat: R. Willey. B}yds, 1; McLeod. OS yds. 2: Ij. H. Meredith, 3yds, A. E. Butler, 3yds. and K. Couper, 51yds, dead heat, 3. Eight started. Won by one yard, with tho remainder almost in a line. Time, 10 2-ss. Filial: A. ,T. Elliott, I: R. Willey, 2; (!. McLeod and K. Couper. dead heat, 3. Butler broke three times and was then requested to leavo Iho mark. Eventually the field got away together, and at 80 yards Walker and Couper were tho leaders. In a thrilling finish Elliott got up in time to win by a foot from Willey, with JJeLeod and Couper equal for third place. Time, 10 MOh.
