The ?3rd annual show of the Thames Valley Agricultural, t Pastoral and Horticultural Association was formally opened this afternoon by the Mayor of Te Aroha, Mr. !'• Coulter, who congratulated exhibitors on the success attained in a record entry. Mr. Coulter said lie thought the district could take pride in tho remarks of au experienced Taianaki judge of rattle, who had said tho Jersey exhibits were the best hd, of cattle he had seen in any part of New Zealand. The weather to-div was fine, and the numerous side-shows assisted to entertain residents and visitors from all parts of the Thames \ alley. Beautiful weather prevailed for the opening day of the Whangarei Agricultural and Pastoral Society's spring show at. Kensington Park to-day. An outstanding feature is the fine exhibits in the cattle sections. Regarding the milking Shorthorns, tho judge, Mr. W. RanRtearj, of Matangi, said that although the section was not strong, the type was exceptionally good arid he was pleased to '■see the progress that was being made in this part of the country. The shenp entries are numerous and there was grind competition in most classes. The Uyeland breed shows a distinct. advance on former displays. Pigs, which are penned to the same number as last year, arc of excellent type. Ilie, work of the. stock reception committee i, eulogised on all sides, tho manner in which tho stock has been received, cared for and housed has won unstinted praise from exhibitors.
