BREACHES OF BY-LAWS. "TRAP" ON GREAT NORTH ROAD. CABARET PARTIES CAUGHT. Numerous prosecutions for breaches of tho traffic by-laws were rlealt, with bv Mr. F. K. IFiinL, S.M., and Mr. E. C. Cut ten, S.M , in the Police Court yesterday.

"A midnight, trap," s?t for motorists on tho Great North lload, Grey Lynn, on October 28 resulted in several prosecutions for speeding. Sergeant Clausen, who gave evidence in all cases, said lhe trap was set especially to catch cabaret patrons who returned in a body, and travelled at a fast rate. Tho police had decided to slop the practice. ''The speed is all right until they have nn accident,'' said Sub-Inspector McCarthy.

Mr. Hunt, said he would irnposo comparatively light penalties. Fines of £] wore imposed on A. G. Bell, 11. G. Bartleet, W. F. 11. Dufanr, Alexander Donald, G. L. Gibson, R. D. Harding, I). C. Holmes, R. Penny, L. J. Patrick, W. P Ityan, N. Tattersfield and 11. V. Warren

Stated to have had two different num her-plates on his motor-cycle, C. F. IJeza* was fined £5 for dangerous driving. Oil similar charges, L. G. Watson, J. II Shaw and C. E. Worrall were fined £3; J. F, Mercer and C. A. Millard, £2; ami A. Wctzell and S. Hiss, £l.

Change of Ownership. That the "trading-in" of a car necessitatcd notificiition of change of ownership was matlo clear by Sn h-Inspect or McCarthy, when the Canadian Knight and Whippet Company was charged with failing to notify a change of owners. The company was ordered to pay the costs of tho prosecution. On similar charges, Cadman's Parking Station, Harrison and Clash and J. 8. Parris were fined £2 each. J. Elliott, who was concerned in Cadman's case, was fined £1 for having no endorsed certificate and licence.

"You were greedy,'" said the magistrate to Alex. McLnckie, who admitted having had two girls on tho back of his motorcycle. A fine of 10s was imposed. V. J. Dally, whose companion on his motorcycle was not seated in the correct way, was ordered to pay costs. For having persons seated on the tank of a motorcycle, L. J, Hopwood was fined 10s. C. J. Heino was fined £1 for riding on the back of a bicycle. For riding a bicycle on tho footpath, C. T. Frccth was fined 10s.

For failing to report an accident, R. \V. Woolley wan fined £l. Defendant, who struck a cart, the driver being thrown on his head, said be did not consider it was necessary to report unless the accident was serious.

Foley, W. J. Hedges, R. Hunt, W. "Woad, A. W. Read, C. W. Simpson, W. V. Wilson, A. D. Wylie, R. J, Ross, W, 11. Dunne, A. 11. Lees, C. A. Hicks, F. Stubbs, E. V. Polard, F. B. Avery, E. Egerton, D. Kalanjie, M. Paterson, C. K. Watkins, J, A. Sumich, C. A. Brown, J. S. Richards. E. A. Robb, W. 11. Alexander, V. H. Crahbe, P. J. Western, A. Lauder, P. R- Wingrove, V. A. Coyle and G. Kirby.

Defects in Lighting. Defects' in lighting were responsible tor some prosecutions. Fines of 5s wero imposed on the following, who had no rear light: —A. A. Adams, J. G. Barker, F. li. Barton, H. R. Coster, I. W. Cooper, A. L. Hill, H. A. Leach, J. M. Masefield, A. G. Mackie, M. E. Otto, N. L. Patterson, M, T. Vibert, W. G. Wright and F. Whiitaker. For having no lights visible, H. Parker was fined 10s, and R. Kirk and R. Shadbolt 5s each. E. J. Cooke was fined 10s for having insufficient lights.

Fines of £2 and £1 respectively were imposed on M. C. Preston and V. A. D. Dignan for passing a stationary tramear. E. Grace was fined £1 for passing on the wrong side of a vehicle. For cutting a corner L. G. Hunter was fined a similar amount.

A fine of 10s was imposed on N. Silich for having a wrong number-plate. F. W. Jones was fined CI for having an indistinguishable number-plate. Tho following, who had no driver's licence, wero fined 10s each: M. C. G. French, E. Opai, B. S. Webb and M. Needham.

Fines of 10s wero imposed on F. Alexander, who turned to the right «t nn intersection, D. Toliill, who proceeded before receiving ji traffic signal, and 11. May, who left a truck on a cab stand. For stopping his car on Grafton Bridge R, A, Singer was fined £l.
