HOMES FOR VETERANS.
EVIDENCE OF THE NEED. PROPOSAL FOR CONFERENCE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] DUNEDIN, Wednesday. At a meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers' Association a letter was received from the Christchurch Association on the matter of veterans' homes in the Dominion. It was stated that a recommendation was made at the last annual conference that a special committeo bo set up to obtain evidence on the matter and report four months before the next annual conference. The Christchurch Association pointed out that, as time was passing and thcro was evidence of the need of such a home, something should be done by the South Island associations. It was therefore suggested that a South Island conference bo held at Dunedin at an early date, each association to be represented. The secretary, Mr. J. M. White, said he had evidence of at least six men iti Dunedin who would bo eligible (or admittance into such a home.
A discussion then took placo and it was decided that tho principlo of the conference be approved, and that the suggested agenda be referred back to the sub-committee for suggestions and forwarded to tho Christchurch executive. It was stated by the executive that the question of tho location of any such homo should be viewed as a Dominion matter.
