BUOYANT WOOL MARKET.

END OF 'AUCKLAND SALE

SOUND VALUES MAINTAINED.

ALL' GRADES KEENLY SOUGHT.

TOP PRICE 23d FOR HALFBRED

In four hours, the remainder of Auckland's offering of wool at tho lirst salo

o£ tho season was disposed or yesterday rnorning. The market remained buoyant, and few lots wcro passed in. Among the more notablo sales was the payment of 22,' ( d for five bales of Corricdalo owe skirted ■wool, grown by Captain Hutnplireys-Davies, of Clevcdon. A line of 13 bales of fino lialfbred was sold op account of Mr. Georgo Cbamberlin, Ponui Island, for 23(1, and four bales of tho same grower's quarter-bred wool for 22jd. The rato of selling Mas about tho samo as 011 Momlay evening—about 50 bfilrs i> miiiiito, .It ii probablo now that the total realisation of tho first salo will exceed £500,000. Tho prompt date for payment by buyers is December 10 in the case of all the selling agents but one, in whose caso December 11 is named. The distribution of so largo a Mini of money within a fortnight, of Christinas should liavo a tonic effect upon both town and country business and trade, particularly since other sources of the shecpfarmers' revenue are yielding most generously. Advance in Super Crossbred. Again yesterday morning tliero was repeated evidence of tho wisdom of carefully classing and skirting wool, tho more casually-prepared clips bringing in somo case 3 pence below lots which afforded a guarantee of uniformly good quality. The official range of prices covering the whole sale shows that haltbrxl wool wa3 a little cheaper than at the opening salo last year; crossbred was on a par to higher, super sorts especially realising high values; hogget wool sold at last year's oponing rates; tho small quantity of lambs' wool was firmer; and bellies and pieces, crutcliings and locks, sold well up to last year's rates. The low to medium and inferior classes, iri particular, cleared at figures pleasing to vendors. Keen General Competition. The report, of tho Auckland Woolt>rokers' Association states there was a bench of buyers fully representative of wool-consuming countries, and competition for practically all grades was keen. 1 Prices were about on a par with tho salo of November, 1927, and were equal to rates obtained at southern centres, although competition at the Auckland sale was more general. There were inequalities in tho bidding, some grades showing a firmer tendency while others did not attract such eager competition. A noteworthy feature of the sale was lite fact that unskirted wool, of wlueli there was still a fair amount offered, did not attract buyers, and growers lost by lack of attention to this detail. ' Tho catalogues disposed of yesterday were those of the New ■ Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, and lla;lgety and Company, Limited, who sold in conjunction with tho North Auckland Farmers' Co-opera-tive, Limited. On .Monday evening the offerings of Abraham arid Williams, Limited, Alfred Buelcland and Jnns, 'Limited, and the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company were submitted. The Kange of Prices.
