DROWNED IN A POOL.

Monday. ;\!, ss Zclla Walts, 19 years of age, who was employed in tearooms at Alexandra, w?s drowned while bathing at the weekend in a pool in a tributary of the Molylie inx River. When bathing in tho Manawatu River at Rallancc Bridge, Robert Reid, aged *0 years, employed by Mr. S. P. Skinner, of Woodville, had a narrow escape from drowning. Reid, who was one of a party of eight, including two children, got into difficulties in water about 12ft. deep and nerd midstream. Attempts at rescue were made by two mates, Alhol Pickering and Jim Boyd, lull tho task was beyond their strength. Tli3 attention of Mr. Skinner, who bad swum across tho river, was immediately cal cd, and he brought Reid ashore. Artificial respiration was applied and after a little while the young man's breathing was restored. Medical aid was summoned but it was not nntil many hours later that Reid -had quite recovered.
