STRANGE FISH CAUGHT.
SIMILARITY TO RAY.
ANGLER AT CAPE BRETT.
[by telegram.—rrtEss association.] WHANGAREI, Sunday.
Closely resembling a stingray or skate, a strange fish, the name of which is at present unknown, was caught on a hook by Mr. Keney McLean when fishing from a launch, in deep water off Capo Brett. Tho fish is approximately 18in. in length and about 12in. in width.
Upon first scrutiny it might bd mistaken for u skate, but there are several small features that differ, especially in the mouth colouring, which is pink on the underside and a greeny grey at the back, with two deep nostrils set fairly close. All closely resemble cither the skate or stingray, though the tail differ* from that of the latter full. The catch apparently belongs to the ray family.
