EXPORT BACON PIGS.
QUESTION' OF CURING. A SUGGESTION DISCUSSED. [BY TEI.ECHAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.'] ' HAMILTON. Thursday. A suggestion that instead of* exporting bacon pigs from New Zealand a curing factory should ho established and tlio finished article sent to England, was discussed at a meeting of the Nevvstead branch of the Farmers' Union last evening, by Mr. S. H. Judd, president of tho New Zealand Co-operative I'ig Marketing Association. Mr. .Judd said there were three distinct trades in England to be catered for, and it was impossible to do this with tho one cure. In order to euro it would be necessary to find at least £25,000 to form a company, and tho cost would bo at least hi per lb. Ho doubted whethor even then it would bo possiblo to get as much for the finished bacon as for tho carcase. Tho reason New Zealand pigs brought good pricks in England was that they came upon tho market at a timo when cuiers wanted the carcases to supplement English supplies. In answer to a question Mr. Judd said tho advance prices for tho coming .season would be 3d per lb. for baconers and 4d for porkers up to tho end of November, when the advanco would bo 3d per lb. for both classes.
