HAMILTON INTERESTS.
FEES FOR HEAVY MOTORS.
REDUCTIONS NOT FAVOURED.
[by telegraph.—own- coppesponpent.] HAMILTON. Thursday.
The Hamilton Borough Council met last evening, tho Mayor, Mr. J. R. Ifow, presiding. A proposal that a slock route should bo made around the lake to divert this class of traffic from tho main streets of Frankton Junction received the support of the engineer, who was asked to prepare a report.
A recommendation that a survey should bo made of tho borough streets to ascertain the number in which tho names were insufficiently indicated was approved.
It was decided to advise the Public Works Department that the council did not approve of any reduction in heavy traffic fees for vehicles, which, when laden, weighed over three tons. A recommendation was also made urging tho necessity of increasing the sums provided by motorists toward the cost of providing and maintaining the streets of cities and boroughs with populations of 6000 and over.
The engineer recommended that the Railway Department should be asked to provide a subway at Forest Lake Road. It was stated that this road was becoming increasingly important, and that a subway could be constructed without great difficulty. Tho matter was left in the hands of tho Mayor and town clerk to confer with the Railway Department. Permission was granted to the telegraph engineer to erect three new telephone call boxes.
The purchase of a new two-ton motortruck for the uso of the borough engineer was approved.
