QUARANTINE STATIONS.

POSITION IN SCOTLAND. At the last half-yearly meeting of the Highland and Agricultural Society in Edinburgh Mr. Alexander Murdoch reported on tho expended inquiries that had been made with a view to obtaining a suitable site in Glasgow for tho proposed Scottish quarantine station. The directors were disappointed to learn of .the small advantage which was being taken of tho station recently opened in London, and they had requested the Ministry of Agriculture to take steps to ascertain from the various ..-colonies anil Dominions whether they would be prepared to accept stock ' from Scotland which bad passed through; the proposed station. Mr. John Drysdale said that they in Scotland were clear of foot-and-mouth disease, and he thought something should bo done to have the present absurd conditions modified. :, It was making the problem of exporting cattle very dillicult. Colonel Carrutliers said that tho society had no powers in that matter. -They were merely asked to administer a proposed quarantine station, for which a site was available near Prince's Dock, Glasgow. If tho Ministry of could not get tho overseas countries to accept tho quarantining conditions of such a station the wholo project might fall to the grouiidi
