TWO PIGS STOLEN.
NIGHT RAID BY HORSEMEN.
SEQUEL IN POLICE COURT.

TE AWAMUTU, Wednesday
A charge of stealing two pigs .at Aroliena, 30 miles from Te Awarnutu, was preferred against a Maori, Robert Huia, and a half-caste youth, Edmund Wright, in the Te Awarnutu Police Court yesterday. Constable Shew said the pigs wero penned and left overnight, but next morning two were missing. Horse marks indicated that two riders had raided the pen the previous night. The hoof prints were followed toward Arohene bush, where some Maoris lived. Witness questioned tho two accused and Wright admitted that both men, when returning' from an eeling expedition ono night, had ridden to tho enclosure, killed two pigs and taken them away. Huia stoutly denied this.
Tho presiding justices convicted liuia and fined him £5, adding that he was tho instigator and should have set Wright a better example. Wright was fined £2. Botli accused were warned against further misdemeanours.
