FASHIONS IN SCARVES.
What is the real definition of a scarf? We once looked upon it as a length of wool or a square of silk used to keep the neck . warm.
A scarf now is a very different thing. It may still be a length of wool, plain or decorated with fringe or various coloured bands at the hem. Or it may be silk.
It may also be one of those tulle "flimsies" that wo wear so often now with our evening frocks. The latest way of wearing one of these gossamer scarves is to have it attached across the front of the frock and allow it to hang down by the side of each shoulder behind, leaving the back quite bare. This news comes to me from a friend in Paris, states a London writer. From this source 1 hear of the scarves which are attached to many of tho top coats. They arc cloth 011 one side, fur on the other. These cloth and fur scarves arc rivalling the chokers and the furs. There are scarves which are mere wisps of material. There r.ro others which widen out into capes. For in Stance, some are worn with the cape like part hanging down at the back; others hang, bib fashion, in front and tie behind with a huge butterfly bo*. The high collar is not really popular. One sort, however, can be extraordinarily becoming. It was on the jumper-like top of 11 frock which has a narrow neckband ending in two long scarf-ends. These can be worn tied in a bow on one shoulder, allowed to hang down the front of the frock leaving a V-shaped opening, or Hung round necks, one end over each shoulder.
