TO-DAY'S WEATHER.
HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.
Tito following vveutlicr forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to ns by Sir. 11. M. Vincent last evening:—Mainly fair to fine weather is indicated in districts northward of New Plymouth, with scattered showers. Unsettled conditions, with rain at times, are expected .southward, gradually extending northward, and rain of a fairly general nature following shortly. Northerly to north-westerly winds, strong to gale, ruling throughout the Wellington Province and over the South Island, and strong, increasing north-westerlies prevailing over the northern pcircion of the North Island. Seas mainly moderate on New Zealand coasts, but rough on the south-west Tasinaa Sea and off-shore in Ihe Bay of Plenty. Warm temperatures and hazy conditions and becoming very warm in tho ciist coast districts of both islands, with high temperatures ruling in those placets. A very extensive belt of low baro metric pressure extends from tho South Island to beyond Tasmania, while pressure remains relatively high in northern areas. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.05 in. Midnight, Wednesday .. 30,1 Oin. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A moderate anticyclone is passing north of the Dominion, while a series of low-pressure waves is advancing over the South Tastnan Sea and the South Island. Indications are for moderate to strong north to west winds, reaching gale force at times south of New Plymouth and Castlepoint; rough south of Cape Egmont; rather rough north of Cape Egmont and south of Castlepoint; moderate north of Castlepoint. Fresh to strong north to west winds ill the Tasman Sea, with moderate seas in the northern portion and rather rough to rough in the central and southern areas. Unsettled and changeable generally, with showers at times in most districts, and heavy in tho western and southern portions of the South Island. Moderate temperatures. RAINFALL RECORD.
