HOSPITAL GARDEN FETE. [rv tet Ei;n \rtr. —own cohkespondent.] TE PUKE. Thursday. The matron of (ho To Puke maternity hospital, Miss Chappeli, assisted by the members of (bo nursing stalf and a committee of Indies, bold a successful garden fete at tho hospital this week for the purpose of raising funds for extra comforts for patients. Mr. T. Loclihead, chairman of tho Hospital Board, opened the fete. There were several stalls, luncheon and afternoon tea were provided and sports and competitions were held. Over £b6 was collected and this will cal ry a subsidy of pound for pound.
A contract has been let, by tho Postal Department to Mr. George Burbery for a rural delivery in this district, which will cover a distance of 58 miles daily. The delivery will commence at To I'uko and will cover Maketu, Paengaroa, Pongakawa, Ohineparea and Otamarahau districts. It is expected that the delivery will commence immediately after tho Christmas holidays.
