The British tenuis players who arrived in Botorua yesterday played an exhibition game on the courts at King George V, Hospital, for the benefit of the patients. To-day tliev played matches against Maori representatives, E. and M. llowell, I'. 11. Jones and T. \Y. Turei. A large crowd watched the various games, which resulted: — Singles—li. W. Austin beat P. 11. .Jones. 6 —o. 6 —2; J. C Gregory beat K. Ifowell, 6—2, 6—2; G. Collins beat P. Howell, 6 —l, 6—l; E. Higgs beat L'. \Y. Turei, 6—l, 6—l. Doubles.—Gregory and Austin beat Jones and E. Howell, 6—2, 6- 2: (dibits and Higgs beat P. Howell and iurei, 6-0, 6—l. In a matc h against Dr. Laurenson and Dr. Gray, Gregory and Austin won 6—o. 6—2. Collins and Higgs defeated two Botorua plavers, X. Smith and Thompson. 6—l. 6-0. '
An exhibition match, Iliirgs and Collins v. Gregory and Austin, was much appreciated bv the onlookers. The variety ol strokes was a revelation to the spectators.
