PUNISHMENT FOR DESERTION.

Having been found guilty of desertion by a district court-martial, Corpl. Wil liam James Cameron, Ist Battalion Scaforth Highlanders, who held n special certificate of education, was at Aldershnt recently reduced to tho ranks and sentenced to 56 days' imprisonment vitb hard labour. Cameron pleaded he had suffered from ptomaino poisoning. Afterwards he took a job in civil life and surrendered wearing civilian clothes!
