December 07, 2'J, 31 —Auckland Trotting Club. NOTES BY PICADOR. The Holmes family were well in the limelight in the Aviation Handicap at the • recent Greymouth meeting. F. G. Twelve months ago Cardinal Logan won tho two leading events at Greymouth and then went on to run second in the NewZealand Trotting Cup. This year he has repeated his Greymouth success and as a result he has come into increased favour for the big event at Addington next month. Cardinal Logal is now on a 4m 25s mark in tho New Zealand Trotting Cup and ho will require to register the best performance of his career to win from there, because the fidd is seluct and undkr favourable conditions fast time is likely to be recorded.
A fchange of stables has evidently been beneficial to Prince Pointer and tho black pacer gave a glimpse of his former brilliancy in winning the Weston Handicap at Oamaru in 2m -14 l-ss. Under the guidance of W. J. Tomkinson it is <iuite likely that Prince Pointer will come back as good as ever and his chance in the New Zealand Trotting Cup may be better than those of more fancied candidates. Two years ago Prince Pointer finished second to Ahuriri in the big event at Addington and also has other brilliant performances to his credit.
The New Zealand Trotting Cup candidates Dalnahine, Jack Potts and Terence Dillon were among the starters in the Oamaru Cup on Monday, but were not prominent. The race should be beneficial to their condition at this stage of their preparations for tho big event at Addington. There is a disposition among keen followers of the sport to favour Terence Dillon's chance in his coming engagement. His best form haß been excellent and lie might be capable of recording a little better than he has yet shown.
Figures pointed strongly to The Abbey winning the Northland Trotting Cup and he duly materialised. The Abbey is steadily on the improve and ho has only to maintain his present rate of progress to win better races before tho Reason concludes. AH going w&ii, J. Shaw may take the chestnut pacer to Addington for tho spring carnival.
As a three-year-old last season Medusa gave aonm promise in winning in good stylo at Claudelnnds and she further demonstrated her ability by notching two victories at the Northland meeting on Monday. The class she defeated in her latest successes was not good, but she scored in very easy style and should win more money during the season.
