Confessions of guilt wero rnado by Arthur James Connop, labourer, aged 38, who was charged in tho Polico Court yesterday with breaking into tho house of Sidney Franklyn at Mount Roskill on I lie evening of October 17, stealii'g a watch and cliain and lis, and assaulting Franklyn, who surprised him in the act of ransacking the house.

After spending tho evening with friends, Franklyn returned to his home with his wife to find tho residence had been entered, and tho intruder was in tho passage. In a fight which ensued Connop struck Franklyn on the head with an iron rnarlin spike. Meanwhile Mrs. Franklyn had brought men to (ho sceno and accused was caught and trussed up until tho arrival of tho police.

Connop also pleaded guilty to charges of breaking and entering the premises of Aulscbrook and Company, Limited, on September 29, and tho homes of George E. Hunter, at Ellorslio, on Septembor 24, and Peter F. Purcell, at Auckland, on October 15.

Stamps, a cheque-book jfnd a fountain pen, valued at 14s, wero stolen from Hunter's house, and five rings, threo watches, a coat, two razors and a sovereign were taken from Purcell's homo. Tho articles wero valued at £2O. A pair of boots belonging to a traveller and £lO in money were stolen from Aulsebrook and Company's premises. Accused was committed to the Supremo Court for sentence.
