He Was president of the Packard Motor Car Co., and is Director of many Commercial Corporations, as Well as a Director of the Chamber of Commerce, U.S.A. He is a Republican in Politics and a Presbyterian in Religion, and a member of the Yale Chapter, Y.M.C.A., Detroit. •/•>>- ->W i- * /J tJ June 19th, 1928 A PERSONAL LETTER TO NEW ZEALANDERS I voted for prohibition but for several years I have been outspoken in opposition to what I regard the evil results of the Prohibition Amendment. Because of this opposition, I have received letters saying that the President should call out the Army and Navy and shoot down those who break the prohibition regulations, and that I should be in the front rank of those shot down. While these attacks are not pleasant, neither are they material. We now believe that the records show the futility of prohibition, and that it is a duty to stand up and be counted as advocates of true temperance and wise government. Many of us made the mistake of voting for prohibition to get rid of the vile saloon. I could not foresee the evil results which were to follow,' results far more harmful and far reaching than the evils of the saloon. Perhaps the greatest of the many wicked results is the wide-spread disrespect for law and our courts. There are hosts of people who are total abstainers, or thoroughly for temperance, who have come to recognise that the fanatical leadership of extremists has wrought a condition which must be corrected, if we are to avoid going from bad to worse. I am happy to say there is visible the dawn of a new era when commonsense and tolerance shall again guide us. k Very truly yours, ,Henry -B.r Joy J-K- ' • I mr I I 1 P. Now dingy teeth, as dental authorities prove, can be restored to whiteness quickly. It's been found that dingy teeth come simply from a film that forms on teeth A stubborn film old-type dentifrices did not successfully clear off. A film that absorbs food decolourations, etc. Run your tongue across your teeth »nd you can feel that £lm now—a slippery coating covering your teeth. Beneath it ire the white teeth you envy often in others. Dentists say the way to remove it is with the new-type dentifrice called Peptodent.
