Mrs. Vernon Hecrl, of Pailna, is a guest at Braeburn. Mrs. Hrewis, of Hamilton, is a guest at the Grand Hotel. Miss R. Woods, of To Awamutu, is paying a brief visit to Auckland. Mrs. S. faro left for Wellington last evening by the Main Trunk express* Mrs. K. Marshall, of Dunedin, who is a visitor to Auckland, is staying at Arundel. Mrs. IS. R. Miller, of Kawakawa, is visiting Auckland and is staying at Braeburn. Mrs. A. Powson, of England, is visiting the Dominion and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. 0. G. Dalgety has returned to Christehurch from an extended visit to Auckland. Mrs. Carl Williamson, of Clifton Road, Takapuna, has returned from a visit to Wanganui. Driven by her need as a milliner to fashion certain flowers required in her Iwsiness Mrs. Coralyn Tefft, of Illinois, U.S.A., made such a success of her art in water-colour tinted silk blooms that she now employs 50 women and girls for the same purpose. From her (lower company regular shipments go forth to Australia, South Africa, Hawaii and New Zealand. Even China, with its Oriental art, has demanded the specimens. The bridge afternoon which was held by the Community Club in the Lewis Eady, Ltd., Hall yesterday in aid of funds for recreative and educative facilities for the children of the Freeman's Bay district, was a very successful event and was largely attended. After tea had been served by the members of the committee the prizes which had been won during tlie afternoon wei'e presented by Mrs. N. E. Ferner. The winners were Mrs. Pago for 500; Mrs. Bach, stationary bridge; and Mrs. A. Henderson, progressive bridge. Yesterday afternoon in the Sunday School Hall, Uxbridgc Street, Howick, the Ladies' Guild of the Presbyterian Church held a gift afternoon in preparation for the forthcoming bazaar to be held this month. The afternoon was a decided success, and many useful and suitable gifts were received. Mrs. Newton and Mrs. Heron were in charge of the programme, and provided afternoon tea for the guests. The opportunity was taken to present a handbag to Mrs. Sutcliffe, senior, as a birthday gift in recognition of her long and valued services in connection with the work of the church in the district. On Wednesday evening a very large gathering of people met in St. George's Hall, Ranfurly Road, to welcome home, after an eight months' holiday in England, Mrs. J. L. Litt. the wife of the vicar. Mr. Preston Chambers, churchwarden, voiced the feelings of those present in welcoming Mrs. Lilt back and in acknowledging her valuable work in the parish, particularly among the young people. Mrs. Litt replied, and at the close of her speech she was presented with a beautiful bouquet. Mrs. A. Griffiths and her pupils provided several interesting eloeutionarv items. Refreshments were served by the wives of the vesirvmen and by members of the Ladies' Guild.
