THE NEW HEBRIDES.
PRESENT CONDOMINIUM.
PROPOSED CHANGE OF RULE. LONDON, Oct. 10. In view of her extensive interests in the New Hebrides, it is understood that Australia will be consulted before any change is made in the condominium by which the islands are governed jointly by Britain and France. The years old controversy has been revived by the reports that French settlers have petitioned the French Government, proposing that the archipelago should be divided between the two nations. One suggestion seems to be that Frame might, consider handing over the islands to Britain for a substantial concession, but the question of price would, it is thought, prove a difficult obstacle.
