CLOVER POLLINATION.
TESTS WITH HONEY BEES. ' That honey bees really play an important part in swe lit, clover seed production, is the belief of M. P. Fairar, of tlio South Dakota State College, says Hoard's Dairyman. Mr. Farrar's attention to tho' investigation oT this problem, followed by a visit ho made to a sweet clover region in North Dakota. Here lie found that growers of sweot clover seed actually invited beekeepers to locate their colonies of boes in the vicinity. These men were convinced that bees helped in increas.ng sweet clover seed yields through pollination of the blossoms. Mr. Farrar built wire cages six feet square and placed them over sweet clover plants. Ho compared the setting of tho seed within these cages with tho setting of seed on plants which were outside the capes. On the basis of 100 per cent, for the amounts of seed set- on the sweet clover plants which were outside the cages. Mr. Farrar found a setting of only 1.2 per cent, on tho sweet clover plants which were inside, tho cages*
