A reduction ot' 113,000 tons in the amount of shipping under construction compared with three months ago is recorded by Lloyd's shipping building returns, and a reduction of 500.000 tons compared with September 30 last year.

The north-east coast suffered a decrease of 47 per cent, and the Clyde 28 per cent. The world's tonnage under construction amounts to 2,521.000 tons, of which 43 per cent, is being built in Britain.
