WESLEY COLLEGE CONTEST. The annual cross-country race for the boys of Wesley College was held at Paeratn, yesterday. The course, which was nearly seven miles in length, was a most strenuous one. and weather conditions during tho past week had made the clay surfaced portion, a distance of three miles, very heavy. Three races were run at once over the sarno course, the senior and junior open, and tho senior handicap The junior handicap was decided over a shorter course, a section of the main run. The course was commenced half a mile from tho college and continued alons tho main Auckland road for two miles (o a turn off to the clay road. This road was followed for three miles to Paerata, thence on to tho Puke-kohe-Auckland road for a further two miles to the college Tho record for the distance i 3 50 minutes.
The first boy home, Pritchnrd, 2m, ran the distance in 51 minutes, and the fastest timo was put tip by Furland, who ran fifth from scratch in 50m 48a. Others wljo secured places were: Russell (3m), 2; Allum dm), 3; Dudding (3m), 4. Bodley won tho junior open championship. with Sutton second. Cowen won the junior handicap, nnd Scott was second.
