SOME GOOD CONTESTS. ETTA COLE WINS AGAIN. BY PICADOR. Keen contests wore a feature of tho racing yesterday, and several of tlie winders scored by narrow margins. Tho track was faster than on tho opening day and better times were recorded. For the Green Lane Trot Handicap Bright Light was made a pronounced favourite, and there was also support for Lonesomo and Etta Colo. Golden Gato, Kolmar, Ansoline, Sebisca and Gold Star all mndo mi Bakes early. Lone-iome went away smartly and led oarly from Etta Cole, with Golden Gato (breaking), Roma Bingen and Bright Light next. Passing the stand the second time Lonesome s* ill had chargo from Etta Cole, with Bright Light handy and tho others well back. Near tho home turn Etta Colo joined Lonesome, and Bright Light # was also handy. Etta Colo finished on well and beat Lonesome, who broke badly in tho last furlong, by two and a-half lengths. Bright Light was half a length away third and Anseline fourth, Then camo Gold Sovereign, Roma Bingen and Gold Star. Tho placed horses all improved upon their handicap times, Etta Cole going nearly four seconds bettor than handicapped to do. Tho judicial committee considered whether any action should be taken against Lonesome for galloping in tho last furlong, but decided to let tho placings stand. Thoro was a good pool on tho Newmarket Handicap, Groat Poter being a slightly better favourito than Laplander. Maid of tho Mountains, Abrudbanya and Goldman broke up at tho ftart, Hohoro began well and made piny early from Poter Grattan, Cori Tacks, Cornelian and Van Rich. Before they hnd gone a lap Cora Tacks assumed command and oho showed the way past tho staud to Hohoro, Van Rich, Peter Grattan, Cornelian, Cute Lad and Laplander, who were in closo order. Hohoro' tangled as the field raced to tho back stretch and interfered with several horses immediately behind. Cora Tackß was still in ciiargo along the back from Van Rich, Cornelian, Peter Grattan, Laplander and Cuto Lad, with Great Peter moving up. There was little change until the top was reached, and Laplander improved his position Cor.. Tacks just led into the straight fron. Van Rich, Peter'Grattan and Laplander. Once they straightened up Laplander came away to win by a length ant) a-half from Van Rich, who defeated Great Peter by half a length. Ribbonwood's Last finished on to get fourth in front of Cornelian, Peter Grattan and Cora Tacks. Great Peter was badly placed most of tho way and had too much ground to mako up over tho last half-mile. Gold Jacket Scores. Wagering on the Alexandra Handicap was heavy and there was most backing for Jackio Audubon, Iho Western lving-Jewol Pointer bracket and Gold Jacket. Western King lost some ground before striking his gait and Young Blake broke up badly. Lady Dunmore and Tho Shrew moved off in front and they were the leaders past tho stand tho second time from Dillon Huon, Loch Moigh, Talent, Jackio Audubon and Western King. Passing tho stand the second time the field was in very close order, Lady Dunmore, The Shrew and Western King being together in front, with Loch Moigh, Dillon Huon, Talent, Jackie Audubon and Gold Jacket their nearest attendants. Western King ran to tho front along tho back, closely followed by Tho Shrew, Lady Dunmoro, Loch Moigh, Dillon Huon, Talent and Gold Jacket. Tho Shrew and Lady Dunmore wero beaten at tho top, Western King and Loch Moigh leading into the straight from Dillon Huon and Gold Jacket. In '.ho run home Gold Jacket came fast on tiio outside to beat Loch Moigh by half a head, Western King being a length and a-half away third. Dillon Huon was fourth, succeeded by Jackio Audubon. Machine Gun and Talent. Jackie Audubon was pocketed on tho rails most of tho way and never got clear until it was too late. Tho Junction Handicap was a good betting race, with Taipare, Fight Ever and Harvest Child all heavily backed. Gold Dial broke at the start and interfered badly with Dick Dillon. Once the field settled down Harvest Child had charge from Nelson Tasker, Gold Dial, Taipare, Fight Ever aud Dick Dillon. This order was maintained until about four furlongs from home, when Taiparo and Fight Ever moved up. Harvest Child was still leading Nelson Tasker at the homo turn, where Taipare and Fight Ever wero handy. Nothing ho d a chanco with Harvest Child at tho nnish and he scored easily by a length and a-half from Fight Ever. Nelson Tasker was a length away third, and Gold Dial fourth. Next to finish wero Dick Dillon and Taiparo. Harvest Child made considerably more use of hi 3 handicap than he did on the opening day and gave a greatly-improved display to win handsomely.

Tiger Salvo Goes Fast. Five of tho six runners in tho Hilltboro' Trotting Handicap wero well supported. and there was a splendid pool. Young Blake was favourite, with Great Change. Maxegin and Tiger Salvo fairly evenly backed. Great Change broke up badly at the start and Maxegin was also slow to settle Tradesman moved oil in the lead and ho made play past tho stand from Tiger Salvo, who was well clear of Maxegin. Sister Beatrice and Young Blake. The order was unchanged entering on the final lap. but the backmarkers wero closing up. Near tho homo turn Tiger Salvo drew up to Tradesman, who put in a short break, while tho backmarkers wero in hot pursuit. Tiger Salvo stayed on well at tho finish and scored by three-parts of a length from Tradesman, who defeated Young Blako by a head. Maxegin was fourth. Sister Beatrice fifth and Great Chaugo a long way back. By trotting J. 35 2-5 off 4.38. Tiger Salvo set tho opposition a very solid task. The backmarkor Young Blake gave a delightful exhibition and recorded 4.28 3-5 one of the best performances registered by a trotter on tho local track. Jackie Audubon was a good favourite for tho Campbell Handicap, with Kohara and Talent also in strong demand. Tho field moved away well, All Bell and Talent going out from Lady Dunmore. Before the field had gone three furlongs the backmarker, Jowei Pointer, sprinted through, and tho order past the stand was AH Bell. Talent, Lady Dunmore Jewel Pointev and Kohara. Thero was net nuiih chango along the back and across the top. All Bell and Talent just leading into the straight from Jewel Pointer and Kohara. Jewel Pointer camo Lome in great stylo and won a fine race by a neck from Jackie Audubon, who finished fast to beat Kohara bv a head. All Bell was fourth with Lady Dunmoro and Talent tho Inst pair. Jackio Audubon was unlucky in tho run home, otherwiso ho would havo won Sunflsh Beats Wrackler.

Gol<l Circlo failct tu begin correctly Wrackler and Dad's llopo were first away, Wrackler leading nast the stand from Nelson Dillon. Dad's Hope, The Abbey, Firpo, Gold Circlo and Sunfish. -Passing the stand tho second tirao Wrackler and Nelson Dillon still led. Tho Abbey being in nioso attendance, with Dad's Hope. Firpo. Sunfish atid Daytime handy. Along the back Nelson Dillon fell back beaten, and Sunfish moved un third. Crossing the top Wrackler. The Abbey and Sunfish were well clear o£ tho field ami they came into (he straight in closo order In a great finish Sunfish woro down Wrackler and beat him by a head. Tho Abbey was three lengths away third and Ngiitira. a ooor fourth. Then came Dnd'a llopo. Firpo ond Daytime. There was the biggest pool of tho day on tho Islington Handicap. Free Advice was backed down to a short price and heavy support was also accorded Luvan and Pageant. The favourite was slow to striko her gait and when thoy settled down Goldman and Luvan were the leaders. Passing tho stand Goldman, Luvan and William the Great were in close order, with Mulwaree, Lord Nepean. Pageant and Free Advico following closely Running alontr tho buck Free Advico and Taiparo sprinted through and crossing tho ton the order whs Goldman. Free Advice Taiparo and Luvan. So they raced into tho straight, where Free Advice drew out to "core by n length and a-half from Luvan. Pageant was a length away third nnd Goldman right m fourth.
