BUS DRIVERS FINED.
EXTINGUISHERS FOR FIRES. " CRUISING " PAST POST OFFICE. Failure to take proper precautions for the safetv of buses resulted in the prosecution of M. W. Karows and M. McCarthy in the Magistrate's Court yester-' day by the chief traffic inspector, Mr. G. R. Hogan. It was stated that Karews carried in his bus only one fire extinguisher, instead of the two required by the regulations, and that McCarthy had 110 extinguisher visible. There was one under the seat, but it was empty. Mr. W. 11. McKean, S.M., fined each defendant £l, with costs. The practice of some bus drivers in "cruising" past the chief post offico on the way to Customs Street in order to collect passengers had its sequel in the appearance of G. Johns, R. T. Bruce and E. 01 lift". Johns, who took 20 minutes to travel from the post office to Customs Street, was fined £2 10s with costs, and Olliff, who took 16 minutes, was fined a similar sum. Bruco, who also took 16 minutes to travel the distance, was fined £2 with costs. J. Mair was fined £1 10s with costs for plying with an unlicensed bus, and L. Barman a similar sum for plying with an unlicensed taxi-cab.
