The Auckland Trotting Club will hold its spring meeting on Saturday and Wednesday, October 13 and 17, and, with £BOOO offered in prize-money, the programme to be brought off at Alexandra Park nest month is sure lo command wido attention. Nomina lions for all events close at 5 p.m. next Friday with the secretary, Mr. A. G, Mabee. Willi regard to the Great Northern Trotting Derby,. 1928, it is notified that all horses remaining in must pay the full subscription of £lO on the day of general entry for the meeting. NEW ZEALAND CUP. JEWEL POINTER'S DEFECTION. When Jcv.'ol Pointer's name was found to be missing from the list of acceptances for the New Zealand Trotting Cup the opinion was freely expressed in local circles that the dale of acccplanco (Thursday last) had been overlooked by the horse's connections. This, it transpires, is what happened, and no tho Auckland horse will not havo the opportunity of contesting tho bis race at Addington in November which is lo be regretted. for he was on all hands voted to havo a good chanco of playing the leading part. CANTERBURY GOSSIP. NORTHERN DERBY CANDIDATE [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CHRISTCIIURCH, Friday. Tho three-year-old Guy Denver, who claims an engagement in the Great Northern Derby, to be contested in Auckland next month, 13 going on tho right way in his training work. lie may not bo quite as forward as some of tho olhera in the race, but ho is coming along well. Repute has furnished inlo a solid-looking marc. £>ho did a good deal of racing last season, but the work evidently improved her. She is in steady work at New Brighton under H. Frost's charge, and sho should show'a lot of improvement this season. J. N. Clarke has t useful-looking filly now in work. She is three-years-old, and is by Guy Purrish from Roeeshield. She goes at tho trotting Rait, and she is engaged in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes. Talent has done a good deal of solid work of lute, and ho bears a well-trained appearance. Ho is always dangerous in races over short courses. J. Meaclion is working a three-year-old iillv by Wrack. She is a pacer, but so far she ha 3 not been asked to do much fast work. Admiral Bingen is back again in work, under G. F. Robinson's charge at New Brighton In the meantime, the ex-trotter is being worked at the pacing gait. Peter Daunt, in G. F. Robinson's stable, is doing well in his training work. A sister to Peter Daunt is the latest addition to the stable.
