RAILWAY TRAVELLING.
Sir, —Acting for another, iti an endeavour to be sure of a special seat, on Monday early I hooked for the following Thursday's second southern express, paid a shilling and was sold a ticket with number of scat and carriage specified. Arriving early at the platform, I placed the hand-luggage on tho seat, and moved away. On returning I discovered tho porter in charge had removed the luggage and placed another person in my reserved seat. Tho seat had been doubly booked. 'The porter made it, clear that ho was in command of the position and I had no redress. Further inquiries disclosed there was no provision for rectifying a booking error of this kind and the passenger might have to stand. It, however, was asserted that if complaint was made the booking clerk would "get, into a row." It, surely would be_ sensible to have a person with some ability and tact in charge of Important trains about to be despatched. V. Dawson. 3, Upland Road.
