ASSAULT AT ONEHUNGA.
EX-CRICKETER FINED. A disturbance at Onehunga on the evening of September 6 led to the appearance in the Onehunga Magistrate's Court yesterday of Henry James Tattersall, of Wellington, an ex-New Zealand representative cricketer, on charges of assault and using obscene language. Edward Thomas Stacey, taxi-driver, was charged with assault. Sergeant C'ruickshank said accused and Mrs. ilalkeit had been living together in Wellington. They separated, Mrs. Halkett going to live at Onehunga. When she and two women friends were returning from the pictures they were approached by the two accused and an attempt was made to drag Mrs. Hall&ett into a taxi-cab. The screams of the women attracted two vouug men, who sueceeeded in driving the assailants away.
'the evidence of Mrs. Halkett's companions showed accused had pushed them aside, one being knocked into a hedge. Mrs. Halkett was taken to the taxi by the, two accused.
Stacey, in evidence, said Tattersall engaged him and they proceeded to a house. Finding no one at home they waited until the theatre performance was over. He did not help to carry Mrs. Halkett to the car.
lattersall, who pleaded guilty, was fined 2-5, and was hound over to keep the peace for 12 months. Stacey was fined £2.
