CONTRACTS FOR BRIDGES. ROAD MAINTENANCE SUBSIDIES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN- CORRESPONDENT.] PAPAROA. Thursday. An important meeting of the Otamatea County Council was held yesterday, Mr. R. Coates presiding. The following contracts and works let since the last meeting were confirmed:— McLeannan's bridge, Mangawai-lara Road, 40ft. span, Gwyn and Son, Kamo, price £284; White bridge, Batley Linton Road, Gwyn and Son, £267: golden stairs bridge, Massey-Wairere Road, 40ft. span, Gwyn and Son, £281; Dunn's Road No. 2 bridge, 30ft. span, Gwyn and Son, £160; Dunn's Road No. 3 bridge, 30ft span, Gwyn and Son, £160; bridge at Whakapirau, 40ft. span, Gwyn and Son, £267; main highway, Dargaville to Mauugaturoto (Ruawai section), quarrying, loading and carting rubble from Donovan's Bluff, W- A. Pratt, 2750yd5., £756 ss. The engineer reported having attended the last meeting of No. 1 District Highways Council at Whangarei a,nd having added the following applications to the schedule of works previously submitted: —Main highway, Waiwera to Mangawai, maintenance subsidy of £2 for £l, total cost £B7; detour road, Paparoa post office to Maungaturoto station, subsidy £2 for £l, total cost £262. The District Highways Council passed the council's applications with the exception of tkat in respect of the Kaiwaka-Mangawai main highway. The county chairman undertook to write in connection with this application.

The engineer reported having taken control of the engineering work for the Raupo Drainage Board on July 19 and had since been chiefly employed on the board's business. The assistant engineer had for the main part of the past month been also employed on drainage board work.
