HIGH SCHOOLS' TOURNEY.
BAY OF PLENTY GATHERING. OPOTIKI RETAINS SHIELD. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OPOTIKI, Saturday. The Bay of Plenty High Schools tournament took place to-day in splendid weather. Last night all schools took part in a concert in the Alhambra Theatre, which was packed to overflowing, and the function was a great financial success. The sports this morning were the eliminating rounds of the athletic events, football and basketball. A large crowd was present this afternoon to see the finals. Opotiki, who were tho holders of the shield, retain possession by a good margin of points, tho totals being: Opotiki, 13}; Tauranga, 7\\ Whakatane, 2; To Puke, 1. Results of contests are: — „ Athletic Events. —Boys' 880 yds. race: Shalfoon (Opotiki), 1; Douglas (Ta.uranga), 2; Clark (Tauranga), 3. 100 yds: Shalfoon, 1; Gavin (Tauranga), 2; Morgan (Opotiki), 3. Boys' rolay, 440 yds.: Opotiki, i; t Tauranga, 2; Whokata-ne, 3. Boyis' high jump: Mulvern (Opotiki). 1; Armstrong (Opotiki) and Douglas (Tauranga), equal, 2. Girls' 50yds. race: J. Shaw (Opotiki). 1; M. Thompson (Opotiki), 2; N. Wilkins (Te Puke), 3. Girls' relay: Tauranga, 1; To Puke, 2; Opotiki, 3. Girls' high jump: M Thompson (Opotiki). 1; N. Tovey (Tauransa) and G. Stewart (Opotiki), 2. Girls' overhead ball: Opotiki, 1; To Puke, 2; Tauranga, 3. , , 'H Rugby football Opotiki overwhelmed Te Pulce, scoring 28 to 0 by half-time, when Te Puka withdrew. Tauranga, 8. beat Whnkatane. 5, after a good game. "VVhakatane and To Puke then met, tho former winning by 10 to 0. The final game between Opotiki arid Tauranga was very hotly contested, both sides playing good football, which roused the spectators to great excitement. Tho result was a draw, no score. ... .., . . , , At basketball, Ibe Opotiki girls were too clever for Te Puke, winning by 42 to 4. Tauranga, 8, beat Whakatano, C. Whakatano beat Te Puke, by 12 to 2. The final between Opotiki and Tauranga resulted in a comfortable win for Opotiki by 31 to 12 The programme was concluded to-night with a children's fancy dress ball, at which the shield was presented to Opotiki,
