WARKWORTH HOSPITAL.
Sir, —I would ask for space to reply to the statements made by Mr. G. Knight at the last meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board, with reference to "a selfappointed committee, which occupied its time in offering suggestions and pinpricking generally." The principle of a local committee was approved by Dr. Valintine and Mr. W. Wallace at a public meeting held in Warkworth by Dr. Valintine. Public meetings were called and the committee elected, the names being forwarded to and approved of by the Auckland Hospital Board. 'The following are some the pin pricks ~rhich Mr. Knight forgot to mention. With Government subsidies the raising of approximately £9OO for the express purpose of improvements to hospital grounds. This money was handed to the Hospital Board who promised faithfully it would be expended on the grounds. So far about £SOO has been spent; credit balance to the district, £4OO. Other "pin pricks" include formation and concreting of 14 chains of footpath, clearing and ploughing of lands, planting of shrubs and trees, providing a sewing machine and gramophone for the matron, and worst of all. the forwarding of complaints made by mothers and expectant mothers. Be' the debt of £65 mentioned by Mr. Wallace, I think it would have been more credit to Mt. Wallace had 'he congratulated the district on so small " a debt after 14 years' existence. On"e op the Committee.
