AUCKLAND ORPHANS' CLUB
FORTNIGHTLY GATHERING. The fortnightly gathering of the Auckland Orphans' Club was held in Scots Hall on Saturday evening, when the executives of the sister clubs at Otahuhu and Papakura wore the guests. The vicepresident. Mr. V. P. Meredith, presided. Mr. \V. W. Mnssey, president of the Otahuhu .Orphans* Club, and Mr. W. K. Frances, president of the Papakura Club, responded to the welcome to the visitors. Tlio orchestra, under the temporary conductoFship of Mr. Harold Baxter during the indisposition of Mr. G. F. Cater, played the overture, "The Geisha" (Sydney Jones), and the ballet, "Egyptien" (Luigini). Items were given by Professor Maxwell Walker, Messrs. Claude Allen, Holder, P. Newberry, W. Jones, R. Eskrigge, Battersby, G. Poore and E. Luks. The accompanists were Messrs. T. Sparling and Cyril Towsey. A boxing contest, Now Zealand v. Australia, the respective contestants being Eugene Donovan and Jerry the Kagaroo, created much amusement.
