EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS.
THE PAPAL KNIGHTS.
PART IN CEREMONIES.
[from our own correspondent.]
SYDNEY, Juno 28
Prominent at the Eucharistic Congress in Sydney, and at the cererfonies and [unctions associated with it in Brisbane, will bo the Papal Knights of the Roman Catholic Church, of whom there are nine in New South Wales alone.
The Papal Knights here include' Sydney's first Lord Mayor, Sir Thomas Hughes, M.L.C., who is still a prominent figure in tho community, and whose son, Captain Geoffrey Hughes, is the chief driving force behind the Aero Club, of which ho is president; Mr. John Lane Mullins, M.L.C., Mr. A. W. M. d'Apicc, Mr. P. S. Cleary—who has been spilling much ink in the open columns of the press, and wielding a forceful pen in the spirited controversy over the carrying of tho Host—Mr. P. J. Minahan, and Mr. J. Thorton, all of Sydney, Mr. J. B. Kelly, of Lismore, and Mr. M. J. Duffy, of Cobar.
Of holders of the Cross Pro Ecclesia : , instituted by Leo XII., not as a Knighthood, but for meritorious service to the Church, there is quite a formidable list in New South Wales, including Mr. P. S. Cleary and Mr. J. Lano Mullins. If the Papal Knights of Australia and New Zealand —for presumably there are Papal Knights in tho Dominion also—were to parade at tho Eucharistic functions in tho court uniform, which is the special prerogative of tlio order, they would cut quite imposing figures.
