FOOTBALLER'S DEATH.

MR. CECIL R. MURRAY.

The death occurred to-day, following a lone period of ill-health, of Mr. Cecil R. Murray, the prominent Rugby footballer of the 1912-1915 and 1918-1921 per;ods. Mr Murrav was captain of the Canterbury'team which defeated the Springbok team at Lancaster Park in 1921. His brother, Mr. H. V. Murray, of Auckland, was also a prominent Rugby representative. Deceased's health suffered as the result of war service iu Mesopotamia.

The news of the death of Mr. Murray will come as a great shock to Rugby supportors throughout New Zealand. Those who were privileged to witness his magnificent display against the Springboks were of the opinion ho was one of the best forwards who had ever stepped on the field. Mr. Murray represented Canterbury on numerous occasions, and although he was not selected to play for an All Clack team, he was universally considered very unfortunate to miss the honour. Mr. Murray was only about 32 years of age, and played for the Christchurch Club 'until his retirement four years ago.
