WOMEN IN POLITICS.
The annual meeting of the Women's Political Association was held in the Priscilla Tearooms last evening, and was presided over by the president, Miss Ellen Melville. The report of the year's work showed that satisfactory progress had been made and the membership had increased. Details of activities were given, and th® balance-sheet was also presented by the hon. secretary and treasurer, Miss Quayle. In speaking upon the work of the year, the president pointed out that politics meant not alone the activities of Parliament, but most phases of our national life. New Zealand was far behind other civilised countries in regard to the position its women took in public life. She considered that it was their duty as an organisation to interest as many women as possible in politics, but not so much from any particular or individual point of view „as from the general aspect, and as regarded their participation in the public life of their country. The election of officers was as follows: President, Miss Ellen Melville (reelected) ; vice-president, Mrs. Franklin; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Burlinson; committee, Mrs. Kussell, Mrs. Middlebrook, Mrs. Holingsworth, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Poison, Mrs. Seymour Wells, Miss Quayle, Miss Jackson and Miss McLeod. Following the business proceedings a lecture was given by Mr, Stallworthy, who spoke of the part that women played in the public life of countries he had visited, and more particularly of the United States. Interesting lantern views were shown of scenes among the Rocky Mountains.
