AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE BRIGHT OPENING TO WEEK. The week opened brightly on Hie Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, when transactions exceeding the usual Monday volume look place. There was general inquiry for Government securities, but holders did not quote freely. In debentures Auckland Harbour Boards, 1937, SJ[ per cent., changed hands at £96 10s, an advance of 10s on the price recently current, while New Zealand Breweries were done at the ruling rate of 22s 9d. In banks New South Wales were sought ;il £4B 15s at the opening call, but there was late inquiry at £49 7s 6d, which is 2s 6d in excess of last week's final sale. Holders reduced their quotations by 2s 6cl to £49 12s 6(1, without inducing business. New Zealands were available at 59s 3d, but buyers were firm at 595. Unions registered an advance of sixpence by selling at £ls, the highest point touched since last September. In insurance New Zealands were unsuccessfully sought at 425, while inquiry for South British at 59s '9d also failed to produce business. In loan and agency Goldsbrough, Moris, selling at 51s, advanced threepence on last week's price. Interest m coal shares was reflected in a sale of Taupiris at 26s 6d, a decline of one shilling, and a transaction in Westports at 30s, a drop of threepence. In gas Aucklands were done at the current price of 23s 4d at the first and second calls. In miscellaneous Colonial Sugars, which were sold at £59 17s 6d on Saturday, wero quoted at £6O ss, but there was no inquiry. The shares of Henry Jones Co-op. changed bauds at 36s 6d, while Sanfords, which have recently sold at par, found a buyer at 20s 6d. Taranaki Oils sold at lis 3d and lis 6d, compared with 9s 9d at the end of last week. Wilsons Cements were available at last week's sale price of 365, but buyers reduced their offers from 35s s 9d to 35s 3d during the day and no business resulted. In mining, Mahakipawas had sale at 4s id, while Waihis advanced threepence io sell at lis 9d, the price asked by holders.
