TO-DAY'S WEATHER. HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. Tho following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:—Unsettled weather is indicated generally, with heavy showers, particularly iu districts bordering on the west coast, and in southern areas. Conditions aro expected to become much colder, and hail, accompanied by thunder is likely in western districts, whilo snow should be experienced on tho higher levels in the South. Westerly to north-westerly winds, moderate to strong, backing to south, then increasing strong to gale. Rough seas shortly in and southward of Cook Strait, extending to the south-east coast. A gradual improvement in conditions is expected to follow, succeeded by fine weather for several days. Barometric pressure will increase everywhere shortly, in response to the approach of an area of high pressure, embracing a fine weather system, from the west. The G ovcrnment meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—An intense cyclone is now centred near Castlepoint and is moving slowly eastward. Pressure is high over Australia. Indications are for moderate to strong west to south winds north of New Plymouth and Napier, elsewhere southerly winds moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in places between Castlepoint and Akaroa. Fresh to strong southcrlies and moderate to rather rough seas in tha eastern Tasman Sea. Weather mainly fine in the western districts of tho South Island, elsewhere still cloudy and unsettled with further rain, more especially in the central provinces, but improving gradually.
