ALLEGED BRIBERY.
MORE EVIDENCE HEARD. SEAT FOR MR. THEODORE. MR. MAHONY'S STATEMENT* (Received Juno 15. 11.17 p.m.) CANBERRA, June 15. .The Royal Commission set up to inquire into the bribery charges made by Mr. William H. Lambert, Labour member of tho House of Representatives for West Sydney, resumed its sittings to-day. Mr. Lambert's allegation was that when Mr. E. G. Theodore, formerly Premier of Queensland, was looking for a safo Labour seat 18 months ago he (Mr. Lambert) was offered a bribe of £BOOO by a former supporter of the Labour Party to resign his seat to Mr. Theodore. He declined to do this, although tho money was very tempting. Mr. Theodore, he said, was afterwards provided with the Dalley scat, Mr. W. G. Mahony making way for him. Cross-examined, Mr. Mahony said Mr. Theodore never in any way encouraged him to resign. Beyond telling Mr. Theodore ho would advise him if he had fixed on a definite date on which ho would resign witness said he had made no arrangements with Mr. Theodore. He was not in any way responsible for Mr. Thcodor.e's presence at an executive meeting of the Australian Labour Party at which witness" resignation was written out. The inquiry adjourned until Monday.
