NOTES FROM TAURANGA.
PROPOSED SWIMMING BATHS. IMPROVING HERRIES GARDENS. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN' CORRESPONDENT.] TAUEAXGA, Friday. When the Tauranga Borough Council met this week a deputation asked tllafc fresh-watct baths, - similar to those at MorrinsvuTe, be-., provided on the market reserve opposite the Domain. The council appointed a committeo to investigate the matter and submit a report to the council. If the report is considered satisfactory the council will submit alternative scftemes for salt-water baths or freshwater baths to the ratepayers. The council appointed 'a committee Io conter with the Library Committee on the question of a new building for tho Public Library. ; . The clerk was authorised to take tho necessary steps for the 1 appointment .of an assessor, under the Valuation of Land Act. . Two tenders were received for supply of 6000 yds. of metal from Aongatete. The council decided not to accept any tender and to refer the question of procuring metal to the Works Committee. The engineer reported . that plans and specifications had been submitted, to the Main Highways Board for the bituminous surfacing of certain highways, within the borough. Mr. A. F. Tunks reported that it; was decided to plant a hedge,- erect an arch over a gateway, and provide a Hlypond and a rockery in the Herri ps Gardens. A marble slab with a suitable inscription would be placed in the. arch. It was decided to make representations to the Government that, instead of taillights for certain lorries, lights be fixed at the back of the cab.
